Wild Wide West !

I did my training period in Texas, between May and June 2010. My travel started with my first time in plane, it was during twelve hours from Bordeaux to Dallas.
At the end of my flight, I met my new family: Janella, the head of the farm, and her husband, Wilson. When we arrived on the farm, I couldn’t believe that I spent two hours in the car on the road… I was very tired.

At the beginning, I had some difficulty to talk English… and it was difficult for them to understand me! I have one floor only for myself in the house (my bedroom, bathroom and room with desk and cupboard). They have farm with 750 hectares and 700 cows named Brangus, Red Angus and… Blondes d’Aquitaine.

I worked on the farm with Justin, the worker (who lives in the other farm house), to feed, move the cows, and usually work. I did many things in the life of the farm, like making the hay and stocking in the barn, spraying to kill the weeds, and separate the baby from their mothers. I became mum of “Curly”, an orphan calf (her mother died from pyroplasmose).

I discovered a dairy farm (with 700 cows in milking), and saw a rodeo, an alligator farm, and could ride horse, fish in the small pond (7 hectares).  I tested Mexican food, Texan food (shrimp and cat fish).

I walked in the “First Monday” and did some shopping in
Dallas. At the end of my trip, they organized a family gathering, and they took me on the family picture, I was proud!  I really had a wonderful time in the USA, unfortunately too short. In spite of very hot temperature 37°C at seven in the morning) and the size of the things, I hope I’ll see them again! .
